Pure authenticity, pure goodness, and pure beauty
The NTD International Violin Competition is part of NTD Television’s series of global cultural and arts events.
It aims to promote traditional artistic values of “pure authenticity, pure goodness, and pure beauty,” and to revive the violin masterpieces of the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. We treat this repertoire as a cultural treasure, to be preserved and passed on.
The competition also encourages emerging violinists to develop a beautiful, singing tone, paying attention to sound quality and emotional depth as well as technique.
NTD was founded in New York in 2001 as a global, independent, non-profit Chinese-language television network run by overseas Chinese. Its satellite broadcasts began in North America in 2002 and expanded to Asia, Europe, and Australia in 2003.
NTD produces content in several languages and reaches about 100 million viewers, with over 70 million social media followers.
Since 2007, NTD has organized a series of international cultural competitions, including this violin competition, to promote Chinese and Western traditional arts and cultural exchange. NTD has been the exclusive television media sponsor of Shen Yun Performing Arts.

NTD received permission from composer and Shen Yun Artistic Director Mr. D.F. to adapt one of his works as the competition’s commissioned solo violin piece.
The piece draws on traditional Chinese melodies and Western violin techniques to express Chinese cultural heritage and a shared human aspiration for the divine. Performers are invited to bring their own interpretation to it.
